ZEM's team has been involved in the integration of batteries into drive trains since 1993. Besides a core team of dedicated executives, with key technical experience, ZEM's partnership agreements with larger companies such as Nidec ASI give it access to a dozen engineering and assembly personnel which it can draw on to fulfil complex design challenges, battery assembly procedures, safety assessments and support.
Chairman and co-founder
Dr. Jan Olaf Willums is considered one of the visionaries in electric mobility. He was a founding director of the World Business Council for Sustainable development (WBCSD). Subsequently, he established Inspire Invest to finance and actively develop new sustainable businesses. He became founding partner in REC, a pioneering global photovoltaic company, and Think Global, an electric car manufacturer, where he served as CEO until 2008. He then co-founded Move About, a European car sharing company, and ZEM. Jan Olaf holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Institute of Technology and a joint Doctorate in Marine Engineering and International Business from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Egil Mollestad is a recognised expert in battery systems and has 20 years of experience integrating battery systems in electric vehicles and maritime applications. Egil Mollestad was formerly the CTO of the Norwegian EV producer Think, where his main tasks involved the development of batteries and electric drive trains. He started his professional career as a structural engineer in Norwegian Contractors (NC), where he was engineering manager, production manager and technical director. He has worked at McKinsey & Co as a management consultant and has been CEO at Norsk Energi, a Norwegian consultancy firm focusing on energy, environmental and safety issues. He has an MSc in civil engineering and a PhD in structural mechanics from the Norwegian Institute of Technology.
